Re: Welcome back!

Everything looks good so far...
Been going back and re-reading quite a few of the old threads, what a wealth of information. So glad you're back in the game.

Me being someone who is still using a Blackberry cell phone, I certainly do not envy you your upgrading task.

Sorry, the picture link didn't work on my cell phone, but I went back and was able to see it on my desktop computer. If I remember correctly, I saw these bottles occasionally in larger stores 3-5ish years ago, just before the industry race to shorten the aging times of everything. I recall trying th...

I'm from the States but travel to Ontario frequently and other parts of Canada occasionally, but haven't seen an Estate 15 there either. I did pick up an Appleton "Master Blender's Legacy" in Alberta about 7-8 years ago, but I believe it was closest to the 21 year offering in the US. Any c...

There are indeed some nice older Cruzan rums out there. Especially if you were in the Virgin Islands when you saw them. Can you give us any more information, such as name, age statement, cost? Or a picture? I was partial to the Estate Diamond from about 8-10 years ago. Believe it had legit 5 years o...

I have been using an inflatible vinyl product called vinnibag for several years with good results, as long as the bottle shape is somewhat similar to a wine bottle. For example, Appleton 12 stubby bottles just barely fit.
www.vinnibag.com presume they are still in business. $25 - $28 per bag.

Great graphics, Jimbo. I'm just as cynical as the rest of you hosers. Will be real interesting if I can do a side-by-side comparison of the "normal" and "lost" versions. As for St. Lucia, We were there once about 15 years ago for one day, during an eastern Caribbean cruise. We di...

Thanks for the quick responses. None of the St. Lucia rums are easy to find in my region of the US. I have the Chairman's Reserve in my collection, find it to be quite a decent mid-range sipper. I have also previously had the C.R. Spiced and the Castries Peanut Cream, both are very good in their cat...

Rums of St. Lucia

Headed to St. Lucia in a couple weeks for a needed break from the snow shoveling. Any recommendations on some local rums I should look for or particularly avoid?

Also, has anyone done the St. Lucia Distillery tour? Worth a 45 minute cab ride each way?

New York Times article on Caribbean rum

An interesting story from the NYTimes about touring rum distilleries in Jamaica, Barbados, and Martinique:

Hope the link works, I'm pretty much a luddite.

Sorry for the delay in responding, but have been busy alternately shoveling snow and drinking rum to thaw out. Like most of the other responders, I consider myself less expert on French style rums than most of the other rum styles. Nonetheless, I do have about 10 Agricole (big A) and agricole (littl...

Ditto. A fairly simple, inoffensive rum.

If you are looking for a sipper, go with the Cockspur 12 for not a whole lot more money; its $27 here in PA, and $23-25 most places where some semblance of a free market exists.

Capisce? Capisce is an Italian word that initially became popular in English in the 1940s, popularized by Italian immigrants in America's eastern cities and by use in onscreen portrayals of Italian-Americans, often in organized crime roles. It comes from the Italian the verb capire, to understand. I...

I saw the Bacardi 1873 Solera recently for the first time in a local store, the price was decent so I acquired it for research purposes. My personal preferences go more towards the fuller bodied pot-still rums from Jamaica and Barbados, so I have never been much of a Bacardi fan. I had a few rum dri...
