It really comes down to personal preference, and skill level I guess. My wife and I are still in the learning stage and to this point we feel more comfortable being able to work the sails from the safety of the center cockpit on the ketch we have been learning on vs having to go forward to work the ...

Happy holidays to you as well. For what it's worth you are doing exactly as I plan to do in 8 years. I wish you great sailing, and wonderful adventures. P.s. I prefer ketch rigged boats for greater choice of sail configs during off weather, and short handed sailing. They tend to be a bit slower but ...

Just got back from Jamaica

Went on Vacation to Jamaica and was hoping to be able to pick up some rums to bring back. The first on my list was the Appelton Exclusive which is only available at the Estate. Unfortunately they sold the last of the Exclusive blend in sept of 2015, and have no plans to reproduce it. I did however m...

Actually yes I have. They had 2 bottles of Appleton master blenders legacy, which I bought and had shipped to me in N.Y.. took about 10 days if I remember correctly. Was a smooth transaction.

Appleton at the Canadian duty free

My wife and I went to Niagara falls, Canada for a weekend recently, and on our way back we stopped into the duty free shop on the Canadian side. All I could say was wow! They had 1 liter bottles of v/x, special, and extra 12, all selling for under 19 USD. All three were of the new labeling. This is ...

Found my first bottle of the newly labeled v/x , now called special blend, in the Chicago area. When I went to the Appleton Facebook page someone had posted that they thought that the rum was now being "doctored" and I was wondering if anyone had been able to test the newly labeled product...

As I was reading the original post, all I could picture is that it was coming from the most interesting man in the world, then I thought to myself, what does he know, he drinks dos equis.

memorial day toast

This evening I plan to sit around a campfire with my family, and enjoy a sip of rum. I am able to do this because of the service and sacrifice made by those in our armed forces. I thank you for everything you gave. God bless.

I walked into a liquor store last week and there was a table set up offering tastings of all 3 real mccoys, clear (3 year maybe I forget) 5, and ,12. I started with the 12, then tried the 5 and finished with the clear. I found the 5 year to be the smoothest, and it had a nice finish that reminded me...

Anyone ever check this out. I glanced down through it quickly, but only checked out one offering 10 year aged Jamaican style rum bottled for private label min order 10 pallets. Made in Texas.
As I don't have access to a computer (only my phone) was wondering if anyone had insight or thoughts.

Yes total wine will not ship alcohol to me. I could get it from the whiskey exchange but the costs involved make it prohibitive. I'm really kicking myself for not bringing more back from Barbados while I was there, but at that time I was still relatively new to the quality rum scene.

Old post bump here.I discovered Seales 10 when I was in Barbados last year and brought back 3 bottles with me, but I live in western upstate NY, and the nearest total wine is over 5 hours away, so I am very stingy with my Seales 10, and that sucks cause I would really like to be able to enjoy it mor...
