Excellent points as usual, cap'n, all of which I agree with. It's a mix of issues, though. You are absolutely right, they're disappearing. But that's not because of premiumization. The disappearance is the result of general corporate psychopathy, which is a different issue at core, although premiumi...

The water thing is a touchy subject for me - but you did add the qualifier of "good" in front of tap water. Houston tap water tastes bad. Straight up. We don't use it even to make coffee. Also, we have done bottled water taste-offs to see what ones would be best for coffee. Bottles like Ev...

Indeed they are, it's a drag, and mainland Europe is substantially cheaper. But access is access. I forgot to add that Cadenheads and Berry Bros And Rudd both have stores in London, if that's where you are. So you can go and stare at the high priced goods anyway. That's what I plan to do when I get ...

One more comment. If you can get it in the USA, don't buy it in the UK. UK liquor prices are significantly higher due to the taxation. So check the internet to see if you can get the stuff at home before you buy a bunch of stuff only to find that it's at home for 2/3 the price or less. A lot of the ...

Get yourself a Pusser's Blue label - It's 108 proof over there instead of 92 proof (or something) in the USA. They also have a Pusser's 151 over there if you can find it. It's all the same stuff, just with less water in it, so you can control the proof however you like it by adding the amount of wat...

It depends on what you're going for with your sipping, I think. It's not elegant - I believe I made that point. So no, it's not for "pinkies out" type sipping, if that's the only type of sipping you're into :) Sometimes I want something to be a little bold and brash. This fits that bill. I...

Jimbo, I'll do this, but it will likely have to happen in January.

The Jethro Tull (Stand Up) is on the stereo, and I'm afraid I'm happily by now past the point of objectivity.

Time to thow some more sundries into a sea bag and get back to the grind...

Wood's 100 Old Navy Rum

My review of Wood's 100 Old Navy Rum: Well, I just got off of a 3 month trip at sea, only to get off and come home for a rest... ...or not. As it turns out, I'll be having a total of 36h off before flying to my next six week job. What to do? Well, in my one business day, I got a filling at the denti...

Another idea: What about if we started helping each other and the limited rums by having a section of the forum devoted to publishing the distributors of the good rums? We want to shop at our local mom and pop stores, but they don't know what we're asking for or how to get it most times. What if we ...

Personally I think we should do some Rum Project barrel selections. We already have the ad department. Mrs Tot and I would be willing to travel for sampling. Somebody who is regularly available (I don't know, maybe in Florida or someplace) could manage receiving. Maybe Pusser's would let us at somet...

Welcome, Scott! Zacapa "23" brought a lot of us in to the rum camp. Now that you've found the right place (as I did only recently), there's a whole pile of great info on the realities of rum, the great opportunities therein, and the knowledge to avoid the many mistakes most of us made tryi...

Noble, indeed :) I was trying to think of what might be a better adjective. Rogue really is hard, and probably impossible, to beat. It strikes me as: the spirit of skullduggery the swagger spirit the nectar of rebellion the explorer's spirit Still, from another perspective, I find it almost innately...

This is great stuff to know, and I really appreciate the way we get the promotion of the good guys alongside the outing of the bad guys. I'm particularly excited about the Hazelburn, since I am finding that I really enjoy an unpeated malt now and then, and I am filing for divorce from Coal Ila's unp...
