Not sure how much fun Saint Martin will be right now, nearly a third of it was flattened by Irma.

No worries 4B. You've definitely added to the discussion, as I didn't know about the differing cooperage strategies. It's a good distillate, they may be using a column still but they're not taking it to vodkaland. Having said that, I'm not inclined to jump through the hoop every time they put it in ...

Will post some notes when I get back to land in a few weeks. It's a very nice drinking rum. Berry Bros will have us believe that each batch is sufficiently different for us to "collect 'em all", but I'm a much tougher customer these days than I used to be. I haven't sipped mine in nearly t...

Glad to read you were out of FL for the nastiness, Jimbo.

Certainly worse places to hide out than Chicago. Binny's is one of the top 3 distilled spirits retailers in the nation, no less.

K+L 9 yr Monymusk - Get 'em before they're gone

Hi guys, Long time no postie. Sorry about that. You guys need to get some of this: http://www.klwines.com/p/i?i=1282485 This whole series was great, but these bottles are languishing on the shelves and K+L has cut prices to the point where this one is a ridiculous no-brainer. The nose on this one is...

Wow Cap'n!

You leave the internet for a few months and look what happens!

The last log entry on this was the end of September! What's been the news on this so far?

"I then asked if any rum from the Caroni Distillery was present 'Caroni is long gone, and the island production is all owned by Angostura. That said, they have a very wide range of distillates, well beyond what you see labelled under their brand.'" Sounds like he's saying that SOMETHING ot...

Shortly after posting this I was catching up on the rest of the Project's happenings since I'd last visited and I found this quote from Mr Seale in response to your glycerine inquiry: "Glycerine has been used for years in spirits for its sweetness and effect on mouth feel. I am quite sure you w...

Anyone who knows the sea, and I've worked on it for 18yrs, will tell you that: -There's not much movement occurring at 42 feet below sea level, apart from steady currents. Not much rocking involved, therefore. -If it's rocking, it's not secure, and you're going to lose your cargo. The sea beats anyt...

I have avoided Rum Nation's products religiously. I've read the sugar tests on their stuff. If you're going to be an independent bottler, then we ask that you behave like one: -Release at cask strength (RN downproofs pretty badly) -Don't chill filter (RN probably doesn't, but I'm mentioning this as ...

A strange review, indeed. The Caner does indeed like his $250+ overproofs, without the water they are intended to have added. I like those too, although I bring my proofs down to roughly the 110 level which I learned to enjoy in my experience with American whiskeys. As a reviewer though, it doesn't ...

While I agree with you that any competent vodka is flavorless by definition... I can still pick out a Smirnoff Red blind. For the record, I'm not a Grey Goose snob or anything - that part of the vodka world is silly. I think there's no such thing as "great vodka". There's just vodka, and n...
