From what I understand he hasn't applied for a DSP yet. That process takes months. I can see his building when I drive to the airport in Waco but hardly notice anything happening.

Pretty accurate, but that was the idea. We don't try to replicate or emulate other spirits styles. We make them our own.

Winston, perhaps then - like me - you have a taste for younger, less wooded rums. Although honest aging costs money and in general, improves a spirit, there are many of us who enjoy the vibrancy and youthful profiles of younger (less than 5 year old) rums. You probably would have liked the first ba...

Balcones Rum is a very whisky forward rum, if you can find it. I think some retailers in NYC are shipping it...

Once you've identified the base products that you like, then you'll get excited about special offerings like, Single Barrel Texas Single Malt (which I've not had, Winston... hint, hint  ) ----------------------------------------- PS - No, I don't get any kickbacks from Balcones. No, you just ...

Tootin' our own horn

Hey all, Got a curious email from Jimbo in which he asked me to come here and brag about some of Balcones' latest accomplishments. So pardon the shameless self promotion! Been kind of a crazy year so far... we've managed to rack up about 27 new awards in 2016. Some good, some great! Most notably, Wh...

I doubt Spec's really has it in stock. With only 40 or so cases released to the entire state of Texas, it went really quickly.

Impressive. I know what blackstrap is (final boil); but I'm intrigued about the notion of a "Barbados style molasses". Do you know what boil - first, second, etc.? Pretty sure the Barbados style is a first boil. They arrest the heating just as crystals begin to form, so there's a lot of r...

Great description and thanks for the details about the 2 batches. Can you comment on the difference in aroma/taste with the 2 batches? I have 13-1 (58.5%), but I've never tasted the other batch... at least not that I remember. :? Don't have any open 13-1 around but from what I remember it is a bit ...

I just spoke to John Little and he confirmed that they are under NDA for the rum sources. While the provenance of the distillates would indeed be a good selling point, they are not allowed to officially disclose them. He also told me that he's working on a new version of the same rum with some inter...

If indeed this new technology "revolutionizes" the way we think about aged spirits, I can guarantee you that someone will always willing to pay more for the real thing ;)
