Wanted this to be good

I did a tasting last night of this rum. It being a local craft spirit I wanted so much for this to be good. Solid copper custom stills? Unique yeast strain? Local craft USA made? It's gotta be decent! The nose of the rum was of light alcohol. The taste is that of bottom shelf highly column distilled...

As a follow up here I did get around to the Amber version aged in their own used whiskey barrels and finished the bottle a few months ago. This rum is a very rich pot distilled rum even at 80 proof and knocked my socks off. It also tested for 0 added sugars. Highly recommended if you have the chance...

Buffalo NY rum - Lakeward Spirits

Today I was shopping last minute at a liquor store and noticed something. A buffalo distilled (not sourced) White Rum "INLAND SEA RUM" retailing for 26.00 at 80 proof. They tout it as "WNY's first authentic rum". "The distillery retains a Class D license and a Class 1A licen...

I drank a bottle of the 8 year earlier this year

The 8 and 12 year are carried at a liquor warehouse in my area along side the foursquare bottles. The 8 year if I recall was around 34 dollars. The 12 year was about 65 dollars. My thoughts are that parce it is as solid rum and offers a clear age statement. The oak is very noticeable and possibly it...

Times have change

I would not say that Cuban rums are completely illegal in the US anymore. They are in fact legal it to bring back from abroad. I was just in Costa Rica and Nicaragua and could have brought back as much as I could carry actually but I opted for central American Rums and Costa Rican Guaro. Since I liv...

Domestic Rum dept: Albany Distilling Inc

I finally came upon more New York state distilled rum. This time out of the States capital Albany. It's not one of those packaged bulk bought "distillers". While we don't have ton's of specifics here I did go ahead and buy the unaged and aged versions of their rum today. They also use pot ...

The test concluded 14 MG of sugar. This is not a bottling I can recommend to anyone at its price point even given its age statement. Its just too odd in profile and while it is an easy sipper given the sugar additives it may not be otherwise.

That time of year - Single Malt Irish Whiskey

It is that time of year again the Irish time. During this time I take off my my typical spirits mainly being rum foremost and scotch second. This year I decided to try a few higher price points working my way up year by year. I will be starting with the single malt selections I made then moving into...

Plantation Haiti XO

Hello, its been a while since I have posted here. I felt the need to post after a recent rum purchase. In Buffalo we rarely get something off the normal rum channels. We did at one store I visit get the Plantation Haiti XO. While the store had no legitimate bottles of Barbancourt, I felt I should gi...

I have a bottle of this in my collection. Its a rather pricey rum and pretty hard to find actually at least around here. I believe they put a huge latex "Condom" over the barrel before it goes underwater though. They did this video which shows some of their operation. https://vimeo.com/770...

Back in may I went to Germany. I bought some Cuban rums at the airport. They used the clear carry on bags. They forgot to seal one of the bags. So when I got back to the US I was pulled aside by the TSA. They put the bottles into some type of testing device and I was on my way. If it was illegal the...

I looked into this place in the past. I would agree with Jimbo here, something is off the say the least. To compound here, there are quite a few "distillers" that simply source their rums from American distilleries and label is as their own. While I love American distilling, after taking a...

Puerto rican 10 year rums

Recently Both Bacardi and Don q released some older stocks of rum. Don Q 2005 vintage 10 years old 40%. Bacardi 10 year old 2004 vintage 40%. First the don Q - 40$ This rum lacks strong aroma somewhat subtle a bit of fruit and candy on top of the alcoholic breeze. Taste is very average, rather smoot...

Mama....where did you get the Guyana rum? Is it available in the US or did you get it shipped from overseas? I got two bottles of it domestically. I believe its a US only offering I could be wrong on that but a number of Mezan single vintages are US only offerings that made it state side. But it wa...
