Re: Sweet, not sweetened, please.

Thanks for your kind words... I've not been very active as there is only so much that can be said; however, I now live in Mexico and quickly realized that Tequila's alteration may be worse than rums, particularly considering the lack of strict regulation here, the heavy marketing and a marketplace f...

Tequila! And you thought vodka was a ripoff?

Hola amigos! Now that I live in Mexico, it goes without saying that tequila and mezcal are next on my hit list. Both are made largely from the agave plant. Both are regulated by Mexico, whose definitions and methods are accepted by the United States. I'll get into more detail later but for now, it's...

Re: A.O.C: Designation or Derogation?

Thanks for your long, thoughtful and informative post. Although JaRiMi and I have a different viewpoint of the term "industriell" my reading of history and the French use of the term as a derogatory slight to competitive molasses rums, I stand on that history. No change. I'll also remind a...

Right you are and as sad as it is to say, we can probably expect a similar diminution of the 1703.

Re: Rum Review: Appleton Extra 12 Year Rum

I would be very curious as to what Joy Spence, et al, would have to say about "value" in consideration of what has happened at retail. Has Appleton raised their wholesale prices? On what basis? Certainly the meme that shipping costs are the culprit doesn't ring true to me.

Re: Rum tasting glass question

Yah mon... I do agree, and I really miss that Ikea Optimol glass. It was pure perfection, and if you go to the main site you'll see why: https://rumproject.com/menuitem3.html This was a HUGE project and we both researched and tested all manner of shapes and sizes. The Optimol was by far the best for...

Re: Quartermaster Rum: a complete fake!

Thanks for sharing. Yet rum sales (as a percentage of spirits sold) appears to be increasing. I'd be curious as to which brands, though I'd suspect the usual Big Three products.

Re: Rum tasting glass question

So sorry for the delay. I no longer have that prized glass, but just like a cognac snifter is much smaller than a typical wine glass, the optimol was likewise a small glass, about the size of a small apple. Judge for yourself. I'm pretty sure I covered the issues which were having a smaller glass, j...
