JaRiMi, I think I would have to visit 1787 with a more skeptical attitude next time. I probably won't buy it again, mostly because of the price, but if I see it at a fete, I'll give it a shot (pun intended). What's your favorite rum that can be purchased in T&T? Caroni and Scarlet Ibis don't se...

This 15yo (if it is) rum is pretty artificial in taste, sadly. Seems Angostura rectifies the spirit so much that the only way to get flavours into the rum is with the help of chemists...Additives. Even the vanilla notes in this product are odd, unnatural.

Not my fav.

I think other sweeteners are in consideration, but the use of sugars as a sweetener is an established process - takes a while to replace this, no doubt. BTW many (like Zacapa) combine both glycerine and sugar already. There's a lot of BS flying around as the rum producers attempt to confuse the topi...

Angostura's rums are full of laboratory-designed quality and taste, sadly. It is disappointing as hell. :-(

Berry Bros bottlings are generally very good, and without additives. The Caribbean XO is a very fine example of Caroni rum, and quite reasonably priced.

Have you tried the navys own archives / historians in UK?

In the case of Jamaica, the taking of the rum stores would be automatic; further since Jamaican rum was always of much higher quality this would be quite a prize. The question is was this made immediately "official" at that moment. My guess: probably not, but of what matter." Yes, th...

What a nice story. Where pray tell are these antique copper stills? What distillery? No pictures, no name. To what degree is the spirit distilled to? How strong is it when it is casked (to what casks, to be stored where)? Do a web search with words like "panama" and "pot stills" ...

Primitive rum? The oldest method of making rum would have included the following: A) Small pot stills - not thousands of litres, possibly not even made of copper, but any metal available (brought in from Europe on period ships, i.e. a few hundred of litres capacity at max, possibly a mixture of wood...

Recently tasted all three of these and I would rate them Port Mourant first, Enmore second and Versailes a distant third. So you can pony up three times as much for a Velier (if you can find one) or scoop up one or two of these. The PM and Enmore are maybe a click less intense than the Velier count...

The only version still in the market is the 1986-2008 with Madeira finish.
Has anyone tried this version?
A fantastic "Rockley Style" rum - highly recommended.
