Would love to get my hands on a Foursquare. Pickings are slim around here. Of the options available I was eyeing the Uitvlugt, but was hoping to get some opinions before parting with my cash.

Hunter Laing Kill Devil

Has anyone tried or heard anything about the Kill Devil line from Hunter Laing? A few popped up at proprietor (Uitvlugt 15 year old and Sancti Spiritus 17 year old). Interesting, but a somewhat steep ($155 Canadian) considering I know very little about the profile or quality. Any info is much apprec...

Special Request: It's time to add Canadian Whisky as yet another prime candidate for the Master Sugar List, albeit in a separate section. Would all of you who have so graciously tested and reported sugaring of rum please also test your Canadian whisky and please post your results... I echo the Capn...

Interesting observations about Canadian whisky culture, Black Tot. There certainly are "pockets" of whisky culture in places other than Alberta, but they almost universally revolve around whiskies that are not widely available in Canada (and are not Canadian whisky). In Ontario, the state ...

Interesting thoughts on the 1995. I have been sitting on this purchase for a while as I have heard that DDL will no longer sell to private bottlers I will have to go purchase it tomorrow for the collection. What year was yours bottled in? This was bottled in 2011. It's certainly worth the experienc...

Review

A review for Samaroli Demerara Dark Rum 1995, 16 year old, 90 proof. Product of British Guyana. Cask 41. Bottle 115 of 275. I've been sitting down with this one for a while so I thought I'd add my own review to this thread. Samaroli has a legendary reputation in the scotch world, and this company is...

Review: Samaroli Fiji Rum 2001

A review for Samaroli Fiji Rum 2001, 12 year old, 90 proof. Product of Fiji Islands. Casks 8 and 3. Bottle 186 of 700. I have written many scotch reviews but this is my first attempt at reviewing rum. As a neophyte I have sought to educate myself on proper (unadulterated) rum and have thus sought ex...

I'd certainly be interested in this as well, though my northern location might make my participation more trouble than it's worth. Possibly ways around it though...

Thanks BT. I would have went with the BB&R bottles in the end, but a total let down from Total Wine! The staff there were pleasant, but they do not ship spirits (something I was not aware of). Alas.

I managed to source a few bottles of Samaroli instead.

Email from BB&R in reference to their 9 yo Barbados Rum: "It comes from Four Square distillery and was shipped to the UK for maturation in Liverpool. It is a single barrel rum (ex bourbon) and has had no additives. In addition, it is not chill-filtered which leaves more of the natural oils ...

I've seen some BB&R in Canada - one in Alberta (Panama) and one here in Ontario (Caribbean XO from Caroni, which is fantastic). I've never seen Seale's for sale in Canada, but I have friends who make frequent enough trips to the US that I can source it. Dai: thanks for the input. I think I'm sol...

Capn: thanks for info. I just sent a message to BB&R so hopefully an honest response will be forthcoming. Hassouni: I stand corrected then! I think I meant more of a relative rather than absolute ubiquity - it's relatively more ubiquitous compared to the BB&R bottles, at least from my less-t...

I was eyeing the Enmore and so will likely opt for that. I'm still trying to figure out from where the Berry's Barbados rum is sourced. It has a chance of replacing the Seale's 10 based on a rarity vs. ubiquity calculus (I can always find another Seale's 10 in the US, but I'm less confident of findi...

Tough choices....

As a rum neophyte, I am hoping for some recommendations. I can obtain two bottle from friends abroad to supplement the meagre selection here in Ontario, Canada. I have some Mount Gay, Appletons, El Dorado Single Barrel, Barbancourt, and a Berry's Caribbean XO (Caroni). I am partial to the Caroni, as...
