Everything the good Captain said is right on point...obviously. I would only add that Smith and Cross is the benchmark I would use for Jamaican aromatic rums. JMHO Appleton is a little more mainstream and certainly worthy of being considered a benchmark.

Scarlet Ibis does not come from this distillery. It comes from the old Caroni factory in Trinidad. Caroni is no more and Ang. bought a large portion of their rum but a ton of it was also sold outside of Trinidad IIRC. Ang. has zero to do with Scarlet Ibis.

This rum will simply be a young rum with a twist. If you want to compare I'd urge you to find a bottle of Bacardi 44.5% Heritage limited release for the white, and perhaps a Doorly's 5 Year by Seales for the darker rum. Both are available for under $20, perhaps even $15 and you will see what can tr...

You can see from the label that they are listing the sugars used as the "recipe/mash". It looks to me like the guy is simply using whisky terms to tell us the raw material being used. It really could be something as simple as that. I will ask more questions and also direct them to this sit...

You can definitely see the difference between the two rums. The one on the left is clearly darker and that is the one made with molasses. The one on the right is pure sugar. They are both delicious. I'm not detecting anything out of line with these. Granted, my palette isn't as refined as some of yo...

Ok, here are the bottles. I am inclined to believe that these are legit, fellas. They are already sold out of the 3rd and 4th runs, the reason I was able to get the 1st and 2nd run was because the PA state store had them. It's highly likely that their other batches sold out locally and these were le...

Manatawny Still Works Small Batch Rum

I've been on a craft rum distiller kick lately so here is another one. http://manatawnystillworks.com/index.php I have ordered batch 1 &2 from my PA state store and they will be arriving this week. I asked a few questions of them and they were polite enough to answer. Good afternoon Robert, my a...

Still no reply...I'll keep you updated if one arrives.

On a side note, the rum is *very* good. I'll post full details in a few days.

Ragged Mountain Rum

Hey hey...just an FYI for you fellow rum lovers. I found this on my PA state store website and decided to order two bottles. There is precious little info on their website but from what I was able to gather from other sources it is a craft distilled pot still rum that is aged between 2 and 3 years. ...

Mama....where did you get the Guyana rum? Is it available in the US or did you get it shipped from overseas?

The Mezan rums are top notch. The Seale's 10 is a must. Depending on you budget, the Berry's are also fantastic.

The reason I recommended Mezcal to you is because it has all of the wonderful tequila flavors coupled with a very Scotchesque smoke. When I had my first real Mezcal, I was completely blown away.

If you are getting into the tequilas and are a fan of Scotch, then I would *highly* recommend you get into Mezcal. Mezcal is one of the worlds great spirits. There are some really good ones out there now and unfortunately they are often overlooked because most peoples experience with Mezcal is somet...
