It would have been better if they had just called it the C. R. XO or C.R. 8yo or however old the hidden treasures might be. Naming it Hidden Treasure and selling it with this fairy tale is a bad mistake, they just lose their credibility. They did it right with the 1931 stating exactly what you get s...

I like "Chairmans Reserve The Hidden Treasures" a lot better than the ordinary one, and that one is not bad. The story sounds most like marketing bullshit but the rum is good. It's been a while since I tasted it last time but as I remember it, it tastes like the ordinary one that has been ...

I like the Admiral Rodney and the 1931 but they are easy to find in Europe so I see no point in buying them there. If they are not available where you live you might want to taste them.

Yes, I didn't check scuttlebutt before posting. I saw it on Reddit and thought it might be of interest here. I do agree with the general opinions expressed in the main discussion regarding this. It's the beginning of the end. The giants will buy up most of the small companies and "re-invent&quo...

When I can't open the bottle, I usually take it as a sign that maybe I have had enough to drink for the night... That is just me of course! I can't help wondering about the micro wave. Did he actually try to shoot out the cork with steam pressure by evaporating the content with the micro wave?...

There are many more manufacturers that mixes imported rum with industrial alcohol. I think most of the German and Austrian rum brands practice this. These are big brands in Europe and sell a lot, so I was quite surprised when I found out about it. It is important to know what you spend your money on...

Here is a video review of the XO from Ralfy. He is apparently quite famous among whisky people but have done a series of 5-6 rum reviews too. In one of the previous episodes Dave Broom recommended rums. I have only watched 3-4 episodes but found them quite entertaining. http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Regarding the reality side I fully agree with you. I don't really share my companys view that putting arms onboard would only escalate things. It's very easy for them to have a no-violence policy sitting in the office at home. I would prefer to be able to do something about it instead of being a sit...

I enjoy his site but don't feel the same as him regarding pirates. My view on pirates is that they should be shot on sight, no questions asked. Working at sea on merchant vessels for 28 years now might have affected my opinion on the subject of course... Passing the somalian coast for example nowada...

Reader Review: Rum Sixty Six Family Reserve (Foursquare)

Rum Sixty Six Family Reserve - Barbados I got curious about the rums of R.L. Seale (Doorly's, RL Seales, Foursquare and others?) after reading the praise of his rums on Jimbo's rum project and other sites. I have bought Doorly's XO and Rum Sixty Six to see what I think about them. I am a bit nervou...

A few suggestions

I like Highland Park 12 year old. It's reasonably priced in Europe and is one of the best whiskies I've tried, together with the different Glenfiddichs. For a blend I would recommend Famous Grouse. I much prefer the milder, smoother varieties. I got Laphroig 10yo and some others like it at home but ...
