Recently found this on sale for $20 a 1.75 - scooped up a case. Damn good juice particularly at the price. IMHO the best of all the "bourbon poured through a charcoal column" whiskies out there. Are you referring to the Lincoln County Process for Tennessee whisky? Evan Williams White Labe...

Once you've identified the base products that you like, then you'll get excited about special offerings like, Single Barrel Texas Single Malt (which I've not had, Winston... hint, hint  ) ----------------------------------------- PS - No, I don't get any kickbacks from Balcones. No, you just ...

I'm not a big fan of the awards handed out nowadays as they seem to be awarded to products of varying degree of quality and flavor. In other words, it seems even lower quality products can land pretty decent awards and some stellar products seem to be overlooked. To me, you can't beat personal exper...

I believe that Dutch jenever would be the most heavily sweetened of the types in order to cover up the undesirable flavors and smooth out the alcohol taste (up to 20 g/l is the regulation now per Wikipedia ), where Old Tom would be less so or not at all, as it was introduced later and seemed to evol...

I've tried several, but I like Santa Teresa Araku better than the standard Kahlua and most others that I've tried. It's not as sweet as Kailua and has a better coffee flavor. Brinley's Shipwreck Coffee Rum is great on it's own, but doesn't have a strong enough flavor to handle the dilution with Vodk...

Although I don't yet know for sure, it's my guess that the "Demerara" sugar (grown in Florida) is an unrefined sugar (that contains a bit of molasses, and thus appears as a yellowish brown). If so, you have probably seen this kind of sugar in coffee houses. It contains less molasses than ...

Re: Happy New Year: Ralfy summarizes the state of Spirits

I watched this on the day it was released and meant to post it here as well. It's very informative and his closing statement is quite bold and pointed. Also, check out his new (re-)review of Old Pulteny 17 Year Old, which he named Whisky of the Year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8KQWv1u9a0&f...

Since this has been quite a personal exchange, I'd like to offer my personal welcome to John Foster, The Artful Drinker. I just want to say that I really like your responses... even your honoring of your home with the references on your bottle. By the way, I also use this same name, bearmark, on Str...

Ok, so about the rum. It is produced from a blend of Barbados style molasses (aka "cane honey"), a very light and sweet molasses, and some blackstrap as well. Aside from a special nutrient blend added to the fermenting wash, it is produced more or less like everything else we make. Long a...

I just got a bottle of Revelation Rum, but I've only had a brief taste in a store so I can't really speak to it except to say that my first impression was good enough for me to buy some. As for the bourbon and rye, I can tell you that they somehow end up with some real "honey" barrels from...

Agreed. I have the Monster, Asyla, Oak Cross, Spice Tree and Great King St. All were at one time purchased in the mid $30's, but no more. Only the Great Kind can be had here for $34. A true artist. You're really missing out if you haven't had Hedonism. It's got a creamy, fruity taste that is awesom...

On the other hand, I'm loving some of the things EW is doing. Their single barrel is a cheapskates choice for bourbon - rich, smooth and, oh yeah, cheap at $25! I agree. Evan Williams Botttled-in-Bond is a bargain for sure, but Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage is a consistently good bourbon that...

This is a fantastic discussion. Thanks to The Black Tot for taking the time to articulate the questions for all of us and, as always, thanks to the Cap'n for sharing his (idiotic) knowledge with the rest of us wannabes.

I learned a lot from a brief reading of the last two posts!
