Just a quick update. Per a short NR Diageo stated they are in negotiations for a share of United Spirits, Ltd. United Spirits Limited is the largest spirits company in the world by volume. It has a global footprint, but has a 59% market share for its first-line brands in India. It has established ma...

I know, I am one fricken crazy old bastard, BUT.....wife left today at 5:30 am for 6 weeks in Thailand and Cambodia. When this whole Thailand thing started about a year or more ago, it was for a 2 and a half week Thai Massage school in Chiang Mai. Hey, she's split before for several assorted 'vacati...

I don't want to stray from rum, but Capn's first post lead with beer/brews. By the way thanks RT for the list. I have the last two on your list and just on GP would be hard for me to restock. Maybe I should finish those first and get on with my education. Back to beer. AB In-Bev, the giant 'brewmeis...

NCYankee, Thanks for the link. Had them in my shopping cart, BUT damn just couldn't pull the trigger. I just have too many bottles unopened. I have to start sipping before I start buying again. At the rate I consume I will probably be dead before I finish what I have. I think I will request m...

Capn',

Just curious. Would you drink it, display it like art, or hide it away to be viewed by only a few?

John

Nothing of significance to add. Just my comment that I found this topic to be an excellent read, educational, informative and well written. Well done all! By the way, my very first foray into a rum site was at Inu a Kena where I was reading these posts by some guy named 'Jimbo' or something like tha...

Capn', I think the restraint you show in your post is most admirable. We here, after all, are grownups, and I, for one, see no reason you should feel constrained expressing your opinions.

Thanks again, da'rum. All advice and methods noted. I will maybe someday make that leap, but at the moment my tiny brain is capable only of single-tasking. I am thinking that scotch will have to wait it's turn. Maybe a bottle for future investigation, but at the moment my focus is on 'da' rum. Regar...

NCyankee, your thoughtful recommendation has been noted and cataloged. Wifey is splitting for Cambodia and Thailand for about 6 weeks in 9 days. Part of me says "Couldn't you have booked an earlier flight" and the other part says "You cold-hearted Bitch, leaving a crippled old man alo...

Capn's Log: Trust me, it is the exception to get a meaningful answer from most distillers. I am always surprised - and pleased - to get one. Don't hold your breath.

I have never been around 'good' scotch. Most of my friends/acquaintances that have begun to abuse 'the bottle' have done so with scotch or vodka. It is a slow sad process. Some are no longer here. Also, 'da-kind' is out of my reach $$$ wise. I think with my limited drinking overall to add even more ...

I appreciated and enjoyed the questions from both yourself and da'rum. It was pure joy trying to give understandable answers. Very few people possess the 'attachments' to hang it out there and ask meaningful questions that force me to think long and hard about what it is I am experiencing and then t...

NCyankee, it is in the list of my initial birthday purchases. The most expensive bottle, but from many accounts on this site most definitely one that should be tried. So a bottle already sits on my shelf. Such advice is always appreciated. Novices like myself need those kind of nudges to make sure w...

Capn', You want her back? (: 1) Yes, I could remember smells from before the accident. Smells are a part of your memories. I think most of us have smells that trigger memories of feelings, people, places and moments in time. The issue for me was that, while I still retained smell memories, by relyin...

da'rum, I would say most if not all smells are there for me. All different than before. A few less appealing than before. Definitely many with a loss of subtlety. I am not the person you want to pony up $100 for a nice French 5 course meal sandwiched around a few $150 bottles of wine. Mind you, I wo...
