The Jamaica XO, which I just cracked open, is about half the price, and at 40% ABV more enjoyable than the 2000. It doesn't have that ultra dry leathery, borderline smoky note, but it's got tons of fruit - pear, papaya, other tropical fruit, and that signature Hampden funk, and for whatever reason,...

I would love to try the 66 but it isn't available anywhere near me...unfortunately.

I hear you about the "over oaking". I don't disagree. That's why I thought a side by side tasting would be in order.

Thanks Capt. This one has me scratching my head. I really thought I would like it more than I did. Unfortunately, I think that this is an example of a rum that may have been aged a tad too long and the wood has taken over as the predominant flavoring. I am going to do a tasting with Doorly's XO and ...

Doorly's 12yr

Picked up a bottle of this a few days ago at Total Wine. The bottle is typical Doorly's, squat with a Macaw on the label. The Macaw on this one is an ultra rare bird, clearly denoting the rum inside is rare and special. I must admit that I was a tad disappointed that this didn't have a cork top. It'...

Mezan 2000 and Mezan XO reviews

Like the rest of us on this forum I detest any additives in my rum. I am forced to accept coloring as it is a rare thing to find an uncolored rum...but I don't like it. Mezan claims that no additives of any kind are found in their rums. Nothing to alter taste *or* color. I had to try these based on ...

I was finally able to get my hands on this and give it a try. Wow. Fantastic in every sense of the word. Great orange flavors and an absolutely epic finish...I swear the finish lasts so long that you begin to get impatient for your next sip. Hahah!!!

I am so glad I found this site. Thanks guys.

I figured I would chime in here and bump this as Mezan now has 3 rums that are readily available in the US. They have the Jamaican 2000, the Jamaican XO and the Panama. I just placed an order for the XO and the Panama and I am on my 5th bottle of the Jamaican 2000. This is spectacular stuff guys. Th...

Another vote for the Vida. Honestly, for the price it simply cannot be beat. Another for one would be the Montelobos brand. IMHO Mezcal is one of the worlds truly great spirits and its a shame that it is all but overlooked due to the filth that is generally sold as Mezcal....like Monte Albon. Dear l...

In an argument with a coworker...need your help please.

Ok, good natured argument about doctored rums. The rum in question is Ron Zacapa. Here is what the Wiki says.... Zacapa is aged at a high altitude where the temperature and oxygen concentration are low, which slows down the aging process to allow more time for aromas and flavors to combine. Zacapa 2...

I hear you, we have the same problem here in PA. We are in the process of privatizing our State Liquor stores but that will take some time. You are 100% right about it being political. The big boys pay off the politicians and the politicians restrict the free market in order to appease their contrib...
