Florida Mermaid Rum

Found a new rum from the land of Florida mermaids, Weeki Wachee. Ironically I didn't find it here in the land of blowhard Florida politicians (e.g. -- Tallahassee) but over the state line in Thomasville, GA where it seemed every liquor store had some. According to their website "Mermaid Rum is ...

Just a thought - it's really rather easy to test your own spirits (of all kinds) using a standard, easy and quick (takes 5 minutes) testing of them using a long scale hydrometer (or two) and a nice quick read electronic thermometer. All the equipment can be had for $20 to $30, and then you too can ...

Sugar test request (Afrohead)

If anyone can do so I'd like to know how Afrohead rum and Afrohead XO do in a sugar test. I didn't see those rums in the masterlist. I like Afrohead XO more than I anticipated and it is a bit sweet but I cannot really tell if it was enhanced or naturally came about that way. Just curious. It won't a...

Finally opened the bottle of Seale 10-year that I got last month at Total Wine in Jacksonville (almost 4 hours away from where I live). I like it and find it to be an excellent rum which I can see being one of the most versatile rums on the market today.

Kahakai Tiki Original Spiced Rum

Anyone sample this monstrosity? I got a cheap bottle in Bainbridge, GA and finally sampled some. As far as rums go, this has to be, by far, the worst rum I have ever sampled. Horrible flavor. Whatever spices are in their are so conflicted that they in combination become a horrid mess of nastiness. I...

Out of curiosity, who specifically in Sweden tests rums? Do they test other alcohol?

I picked up a bottle of Doorly's 5-year and now have this as one of my favorites. Can't get it here in Tallahassee so the next time I'm in Jacksonville I'm buying at least 3 bottles. Sadly it's doubtful any local bars/lounges have this in their repertoire. They don't know what they are missing. If I...

I am hoping to be headed that way in a couple of years for a cruise out of Miami (to make up for the "cruise from hell" out of Jacksonville). ADDENDUM: Actually we may be flying down to Miami later on this year for hopefully a vacation to the Bahamas but I wouldn't have any opportunity to ...

Unfortunately in north Florida there aren't such places as far as I can determine. Maybe in Jacksonville but nothing as far as I can find westward.

Total Wine & More - Jacksonville

My wife and I decided on a spur of the moment last week to take a weekend getaway this weekend to Jacksonville. Only about a 2-and-a-half hour drive then however long to get to the hotel. One place I wanted to check out was Total Wine and More which carries rums I cannot get here in Tallahassee. Bas...

"fragrance molecule chains to form peacefully"???

Sorry, but that sounds like something a hippy chemistry professor from the Woodstock era would say.

I've tried all four of the Bayou rums and the spiced rum is my favorite of the four. The Satsuma is a rather unique rum. I wonder how it would fare in mixed drinks. Maybe a "Satsuma Hurricane"?

Here's how I described it elsewhere...please keep in mind I am no expert and am giving my personal opinion... --- I read a lot of hype on this rum online as well as the ratings here. I decided to spend the $125 making this the most expensive rum I've purchased thus far. With all the hype and for the...

Ron Abuelo Centuria

Several months ago, after reading a lot of hype about this rum, I decided to shell out $125 at the local ABC Fine Wine & Liquor store locally. Just opened it and tried some. Did I get the same rum as all those glowing reviews? I read reviews touting its smoothness and remarkable taste. How only ...
