Fantastic reply - thank you Capn! I started this thread to "disambiguate" (hideous wiki word) the discussion. The clarification that you have provided suggests a couple avenues forward: a petition to the ATF Administrator to begin enforcing the existing regulations, given the current rampa...

Well, duh! ATF has serious fires burning - half-brained congressmen want to carry weapons on the House floor! But seriously, there are holes in those regulations that you could drive an armored division through. The only absolute violation apparent is the extreme Z's which are probably well beyond 2...

Legal Definition per the Code of Federal Regulations

Since the word "legal" has been appearing more regularly: Full code here . ELECTRONIC CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS e-CFR Data is current as of June 13, 2014 Title 27: Alcohol, Tobacco Products and Firearms PART 5—LABELING AND ADVERTISING OF DISTILLED SPIRITS Subpart C—Standards of Identity ...

Although I profoundly agree with what Mr. Seale said (and his rums are top of my list!) and most of Jimbo's expansive rants, I wish to offer two counter-examples: Gosling's classic black label - an unambiguously spiced (though gently) rum, and Pusser's. For my recent birthday, I treated myself to a ...

Holy hell, my phone doesn't even work in the Bahamas - and I don't miss it when I'm there!

Gary_R - simple hard-assed question: from your informative, and, I hope, accurate depiction of Pusser's, WTF is up with your web site tag "PUSSER's - The Single Malt Rum"?

Dai, as with almost all of Seale's products, Doorly's XO is straight spirits without added "flavor enhancers" (although 4 square spiced is very nice for that genus). It is, as I understand, an experiment in aging in a variety of casks, then blending. I find that it does tend toward a certa...

Jimbo,

Huge thanks to you and Sue - you have done outstanding work here and it is deeply appreciated.

May your path ahead be clear, interesting and wend its way to success in whatever is next. Good luck and good rum to both of you!

Just got a new order in yesterday: (not obsessing over exact varietals) the same Rwanda, your Colombian Familia Guerra and new Sumatran and Guatemalan offerings. Roasted the Rwanda, Sumatra and Colombian today. First, my roast profile: in the rotisserie drum roaster, it is actually very difficult to...

Seale's 10 yo.

Remove that, and I could suffer through with Appleton Extra or HC 7.

Rum, Burr and Z rums as the "new cognac" on NPR

This is a story that aired on ATC this week. Jimbo, listen, take ten deep breaths (in your case, 27 deep breaths, we must control the BP) and respond! With a good argument, and your excellent links, you may become a 10 minute radio star - NPR is never afraid to present the other side! Obviously, Ro...

Hmm - interested to hear how it is after rest. I get none of the vegetal quality, but usually let it get well clear of first crack before pulling. And, yes, Sweet Maria's may be struggling. Although this is a comparatively slack season for coffee, when I went to restock yesterday, they were out of a...

<shudders> It's possible that something drinkable will come forth, but shelf-life of green beans is normally considered to be a bit over a year, maybe more if vacuum-packed and stored at room temp. The dehydrating effect of the freezer is equally destructive to green and roasted beans - DON'T DO IT ...

I've heard numerous interviews with Tom Owens (aka Sweet Maria's talking head), and he universally says that the best brew system (barring a GOOD espresso maker) is a filter cone and a kettle of hot water. He also, somewhat abashed, has said, yes, we sell fancier, higher tech and more expensive syst...
