Copy dat! Sure sounds that way.I don't think he needed to go to Jamaica to do this. Could of just as easily got the craft distillers to sell him some rum.

It's all down to taste. I do believe warmer climes can accelerate aging - to a point. Smaller barrels don't work. Micros trying to accelerate Bourbon aging have proven that. Solara is of limited value except for aggressively blended products like Cognac. It's and easy experiment to do at home. -- Sa...

I had hoped this was going to be a bottling that was an expression of an individuals passion for Rum spirits. Apparently it has drifted in another direction, one more market driven (hey, it's what the bartenders I talked to want). Making something to appeal to market preference is really no differen...

The List So Far; Sea Wynde Barbancourt 3 Star, 5 Star and Estate du Domaine (15) Braasch Koloa - I'll need more convincing on this one. Going by the bottle I have, it is the blackest Rum I have ever seen. There is no way it isn't at least colored. The Molasses flavor is so strong it must be added po...

Some more random thoughts on Oak and barrels; Not all Oak is equal. White Oak gives the sweet flavors you describe while other Oak's like Red Oak and Live Oak is bitter and nasty. Oak from different forests have slightly different flavor notes giving rise to the barrel source terrior that the Brandy...

We can start the list with this one. I'm pretty sure the Clement Single Cask is an unaltered Rum. It seems to be pretty much a straight barrel dump at barrel proof. Unfortunately it's not imported to the US. Short of a barrel dump I have come to distrust everything Rum producers say so much it's goi...

My feeling is that unlike single malts, only a handful of old rums have any value, eg. the remaining original British Navy Rum, or perhaps a very old and clean Bacardi. When EBay allowed liquor sales older Rums went for good coin. Not sure where you would find a place to sell it today. Bonhams is o...

Makers is owned by Jim Beam, I'm not sure how much control Beam exercises over production. It's a good bet Beam is owned one of the big internationals. Aside from craft distillers and Heaven Hill which is still privately owned the megainternatspirits companies own most of the distilleries. Often the...

None of those have much in common with Rum. Several are poured through a column of sugar maple charcoal to add sweetness and supposedly smoothness. I noticed the Rums you list as favorites are light on entry and of the list you provided Woodford might be the lightest entry but also some pot still no...
