I wasn't aware until today when I was browsing the WIRSPA site that El Dorado is produced in wood stills, no wonder ED 15 is now one of my two favorite rums, along with Pusser's. I knew there was something unique about it the first time I tried it.

I still say I really question BTI's ratings - I mean if you cut off at 89 or 90, you would never try Pussers Blue Label which is 84. They give Zafra 95. They rate several mediocre rums higher than Pussers - Diplomatico Reserva (92), Gosling's Gold (89), Cruzan dark Aged Rum (89) , Don Q Cristal (88)...

I tried the 15 yr old a few days ago at a whiskey bar and loved it - picked up a bottle of this yesterday and I might actually like it better, not as smooth but I think it might be more flavorful and interesting. I guess this makes sense since my taste in Scotch runs towards the most strongly flavor...

I wanted to add - in reference to that interesting black bottle that you cannot get the rum to come out of - tilt it or turn it upside down over your glass ands shake it gently, to loosen the one-way valve that I guess is to prevent one from refilling the bottle.
