Hear hear - I took it to one of my favorite bars, a Hemingway-themed one, where I'm friends with the bartender and was accompanied by another of my bartender buddies, and they agreed it was superb, and ultra clean - the product of super-clean distillation and cuts, i.e. what Bacardi established itse...

Two great purchases. Just please, please, whatever you do don't do a live tasting on twitter and please don't use the word "yumm". I have often wondered about Berry's considered a bottle or so the only thing I can get made by them up here is their Penny Blue rum which I have two releases ...

Great to hear you finally found some. You should be able to find a few bottles here and there. Unless I'm just lucky to have 5 stores that have it in stock around me that I know of. You are lucky. It is not available anywhere remotely local to me (DC, VA, MD area). As for the new product, have you ...

DDL PM Single Barrel

Tried some at Cane & Table, a remarkable rum and rum cocktails bar in New Orleans. This is FAR better than the ICBU single barrel, and has that real demerara punch, not unlike my Cadenhead's PM bottling. Not sure what they charge for it, but worth a try if you can't find indies easily.

Tried it last night, finally, at Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29 in New Orleans.

AWESOME stuff. I can see what the fuss was about, and it makes me even more pissed off that modern Bacardi is such utter crap. They need to release this more widely, I'd probably pay up to $30 for it.

Don Q and other Serrallés products

Disclaimer, before I start: I have ZERO affiliation with this distillery, I just very much support what they do. I haven't seen much talk here of the Serrallés distillery, from Ponce, PR, but I thought I'd drop a few words in their favor, especially given that we love to hate Puerto Rico's Big Bat....

I read recently (can't remember where) that Trinidad still has a bulk-only distillery - is it possible that SI is sourced from them and not Angostura? If it is Angostura, then I see the Scarlet Ibis as more proof that the giant distillers can and do still put out quality products...but not under the...

I tried the 12 at a bar - very interesting. Not very Bajan tasting at all. It almost reminded me of ED12, if the latter had no sugar added. That being said, the RM12 was not nearly as dry as the Seale's 10 - stylistically within the Foursquare range, I'd place it closer to Doorly's. It's also pretty...

The thanks are all yours, Hass. It is a great and rare intersection when someone whose tastebuds can be trusted actually has the good stuff to validate something. I'm glad I took a gamble on this. After seeing some initial reviews on forums and being afraid I would miss the boat, I bought a 12 case...

Leblon, Avúa, and more

Recently tried both the white and aged versions of Avúa cachaça, the latter aged in amburana wood, something native to Brazil. Both are very nice, tastefully funky, flavorful sippers, and I'm sure the white would make a nice caipirinha. They're making a push for greater presence in the US mixology s...

About Flor de Cana... As you know I tested the 4-5-7-12-18 yrs and posted the surprising sugar levels. Unfortunately these are rather old bottles with the 4 yr being close to empty so I am reluctant to add these sugars to the master list. If any of you testers can please post your tests, it will be...

Hass, thanks and on bended knee, I beg you... To please test the EH for sugar, should be interesting... I have yet to get the measuring set, I have ZERO disposable income at the moment :( though I assure you I will as soon as that changes. That said, I'm sure all 3 iterations of Demerara 151 have s...
