Is Total Wine the great Satan...
or the hope for quality rums? Through their wholly owned subsidiary, Total owns the entire US distribution of Four Square products. As we all know, Four Square and Robert Seale make many outstanding pure rums on the modern market. I always question monopolies, but maybe this is a good thing, or not....

<start rant> Holey crap Batman! This is getting out of hand! Let's discuss something meaningful like how many fooking angels can dance on the tip of a fooking needle (and how do they stay on while fooking?) Rum is not and never will be single malt scotch or German beer. THERE ARE FEW RULES, AND NO &...

I beg to differ JaRiMi. Havana Club 7 is easily among my favorite 5 rums. I delightful complexity above a gentle dunder. Unless my illicit supply is running low, I will certainly reach for it before the current MGXO (what I wouldn't give for a case of the old, classic bottle MGXO that Sue and Jimbo ...

One thing I noticed in the lists is that older rums tended to have higher sugar concentrations (even counting bogus age claims). Does this support Jimbos's aging hypothesis (i.e. peak aging is 7-10 years) and sugar is added back to restore flavor? I can't really believe that more time in oak is addi...

As a lifelong nicotine addict, I have attempted pipe smoking, but found that the ritual was satisfying, the flavor and pipe maintenance were never satisfying. I am disappointed to see that Dominican Montecristos are adulterated. I admit a preference for more robust Nicaraguan cigars when I can't get...

Simply said: that's Seales' abuse! BTW - HC Blanco IS Bacardi due to an obnoxious trademark suit. On the positive side, I've discovered that if I'm in a hole with no decent rum, drink rum and tonic with lime. Makes Mount Gay Eclipse very tasty. :) Standard tonic is very sugar rich - thanks for demon...

Yirge's are often genuinely amazing coffees. They tend to be very sensitive to roast - when right, they'll scream forth with amazing bright flavors; a bit more roasting and they become a muddy mess. I love them and gladly enough toss my bad roasts, knowing what I'll get with a good one. They are esp...

The Right gets it right?
Just listening to NPR news and heard a zip-by report on on the conservative tax reformers who want to do away with ALL tax breaks, preferences and kickbacks. It may be that politics, not righteousness decide the subsidies issue. For once, I'm all "GO WINGNUTS!" (of course, why the hell do ...
