That's what Edpoe just told you. They OWN old Caroni stock. They didn't make it.

I bought one bottle of Angostura to check it out years ago. That's me done for life.

It got more popular because the info got out that they were dropping the age statement - so it became a "dusty" and all the bourbon hunters went mad hunting it down, because they were too late in the whiskey boom to score dusty bourbon anymore. Personally, I have always found FDC to be a c...

Total Wine for me = Berry's.

They're Guyanan selections are stellar. That's my focus. But the Nicaraguan is also pretty great, as is the Caribbean XO, which is Caroni.

Good luck and have fun, and tell us how you do.

Cool. I've been stuck on standby in a Karratha, Australia hotel room. I managed to find a bottle of Beenleigh 5yr rum and give it a healthy try. I contacted the distillery some weeks ago by email and they told me they only added coloring caramel, but to me, the rum has a sweetened taste. Wish I coul...

I'm certainly not saying you're wrong, but I'm always careful not to accuse something of being over-oaked. It's too easily-accepted a criticism/scapegoat, when barrel-aging factors are very complex and all over the map. I think it would be hard to over-oak something in used cooperage in 12yrs, even ...

The Bristol Classic Vale Royal Wedderburn is a Long Pond, as Cocktailwonk confirmed in his recent write up. Being classed as a Wedderburn means it has very high ester count (from what I've gathered). It's a beauty, and it was pretty cheap and available in the UK at least a little while ago. I still ...

Find some younger and lighter honestly made, sugar-free rums such as Mount Gay XO (easy to get) or some of the younger Foursquare distillery products such as Doorly's 5yr. Drink these younger rums until your palate develops. Also try working on some younger unpeated Scottish single malts like Hazelb...

I think you covered things pretty well here, Jarimi, and I agree with you. Certainly no one wants to cross a steak with a pineapple (I enjoyed this metaphor :) ), it is also nonetheless true that a pizza with nothing but cheese on it is not much of a gourmet experience, either. Any great cocktail de...

I think Glaser, Ralfy, yourself AND Jarimi are right. Great single barrels are a joy unto themselves. Blending them can make them even better. But when it comes to rums, I prefer to have control over that process and do the blending that I choose, should I wish to experiment. Velier's recent "b...
