Do you know the timing on this release? Is it an annual thing?

Yes, I've tried the Smith and Cross.

I emailed the brewery to inquire about their potential to re-stock.

Yes, 60GBP+ is pushing it for a 40GBP product.

I'll let you know what I get back.

Long story short re: London, Cadenhead's shop and Vintage House are both awesome. Gerry's could be good but the shop layout is not very welcoming. Down on the South Bank there's also the Whisky Exchange at Vinopolis, which has indie rums, but I haven't been. And of course there's Berry Bros' shop in St James's, where I also haven't been.

Still best value is prob the cheap litres of Woods at Heathrow.

If you visit the UK and want to take back something you cannot find elsewhere then I would suggest the following.

Independent bottlers

Berry Bros, Bristol and Cadenhead (I still need convincing I should buy from a whisky specialist!)

But really where the UK comes into its own is with cheap, dense, dark Demerara's.

Woods 100, Skipper, Robert Watson's Demerara and Trawler rum, OVD. A lot of these are blended and bottled in the UK and are very popular in Scotland.

Well, Cadenhead's have been dealing in rum for longer than either of us have been around on this planet, so..

Cadenhead's is Scotland's oldest independent bottler - of whisky AND rum. They've released absolute gems in the past, and yes, they treat rum much like whisky - with respect, and no funny additives of sugar or spicings. They do a great gin as well, Old Raj.

All of those brands have a once-grand history and name from a merchant from the old days of glory, but these days are a mere shadow of their past, sadly. Big companies have since ages ago bought the brands, and done their worst to them...

Hmm, Berry, Cadenhead's and Duncan Taylor probably carry very different products in different countries and stores, so all of these are worth checking out at available stores. There may also still be some of the ACEd Bruichladdich bottled rums in some stores.

The stores I know in London worth visiting are:

- Vinopolis/Whisky Exchange
- Gerry's
- Milroys of Soho
- Vintage House
- Royal Mile Whiskies
- Cadenhead's
- Fortnum and Mason might have some nice ones
- Harrods (surprisingly they carry a lot of Bristol Spirits rums)
-Master of Malt is in Kent, but there's no shop

They do deliver all over though...

Curiously, the selection in shops in Italy is nowadays usually much more interesting than that in London! Elsewhere in UK - well, look at the internet, it has most fo the info.

It's really difficult to say what they have in their stores at different places on any given time or day. Even the lists in the net do not always correspond to actual shop stock.

As for "only available in UK" bottlings, well...I recently saw an Ardbeg which was only supposed to be sold in the distillery store listed in Systembolaget in Sweden, so go figure

I would at least personally recommend (or buy) a not-so-delish bottling just because it is not available elsewhere...but that's just me.

Dunno, OVD, Skipper's etc are quite readily available in various parts of Europe at least as far as I've seen. But great rums can be found in UK for sure.

Last time I popped into Cadenhead's store in Campbeltown I was really lucky to find a 28yo Demerara (last bottle they had) selling for less than GBP 80! Nabbed it immediately.

Personally I just wanted to warn that all these "old great demerara brands" are nowadays sadly not exactly what they used to be - and also inform anyone who was wondering about Cadenhead's and rum that they know their stuff, and have been dealing in rum for quite some time indeed.

Update: I've looked in the arrival duty frees in both Gatwick and Heathrow, and also the departure ones at Heathrow, and have not seen any Woods 100 1Ls.

When was the last time you saw this Hassouni? Do you remember what terminal?

I'd WAY rather buy this stuff by the liter if I could. Truth be told, by the case of liter bottles...

Honestly, it was a bit more than a year ago, Terminal 1, London to Beirut. And a friend got some for me since then, also at Heathrow, but not sure which terminal, though I'd guess 1 or 3.
