Deep Sea Rum?
Deep Sea Rum?
I came across a bottle of Deep Sea Rum while my wife and I were visiting her sister for New Year's. This is somewhat of an enigma. The shrinkwrap around the top of the bottle reads "Bottled by Mango Bottling, Cocoa, FL for La Playa Beverage Houston, TX 713-392-1516". Some information online reveals a trademark for Deep Sea Rum to be held by Conway Vineyards, Inc. in Santa Barbara, CA. However that may be outdated information since it was filed in 2001 and renewed in 2003 ( http://www.trademarkia.com/deep-sea-rum-76298706.html ). Also see: https://www.myfloridalicense.com/Licens ... 7B9B808555 which refers to Deep Sea Rum as a Florida license.
Online retailer Ace Wine & Spirits lists it as being produced in Mexico by Fabrica de Mezcal and shows a similar bottle but rather than the glass palm tree inside the bottle it has a blue fish. In fact, all the pics online I could find shows a blue fish in the bottle for the rum. I did find one pic of a bottle of Deep Sea Vodka with a glass dolphin inside. Also rather than a cork stopper my bottle has an acrylic topped plastic stopper.
This rum is truly an enigma.
Anyone know anything about this rum? If so, please let me know more about Deep Sea Rum. Thanks in advance.

I use http://imgur.com/ to upload the picture then use the IMG insert. I have a kindle recently for gallery but the picture taking quality is lacking.
Well. This is a fairly dusty bottle.
As every bottle of alcohol is needing to be registered with the TTB prior to sale, I took to the TTB archives.

This bottle was approved for sale in 6/2001. That bottle you have was sitting on a shelve for probably 14+ years and the company is now defunct. Amazing it sat around that long.

Wow! A collector's item. Knowing how Mississippi does their liquor distribution (through a central warehouse controlled and run by the state government) I theorize it's been sitting in that warehouse for a long time and was used to fill out an odd-lot order for the liquor store I checked out. The box was almost full, had an open slot, and the shipping clerk grabbed something at random to fill the open slot. Glad I got it.
And considering it has a palm tree rather than the fish it might even be rarer. Who knows? Not that I have a way of selling it to a collector myself.
Thanks for the info.

The variations were most likely sold side by side during its release periods. This was a short lived company that lasted until from the records I found until 2004. The bottle you have is more than likely first run due to the topper. As far as value is concerned here I would say more of a keepsake bottle, that you or anyone for that matter cannot get a hold of. More of a display piece as the juice inside was most likely based on the TTB descriptors to be lightly aged then filtered. Other info from 2003 press release states the bottles were meant to be collectors items with different figurines inside the bottle.
