What a Shocker - Not Dept: Tiare officially on Dark Side

Post by Capn Jimbo »

We all know Tiare and her Mountain of Crushed Ice...

Now while the site is colorful and often informative, it's also slick and very commercial in appearance. When given the chance to support Save Caribbean Rum, and/or the outing of massive sugaring, she politely declined and like all good Swedes attempted to stay feministically kind, loving and neutral.

No more. Her years of pandering have paid off and it appears she is coming to - urp - the U.S. of A. to ply her new commercial wares as a "Brand Ambassador", aka corporate shill.

From Her LinkIn page:
"Brand Ambassador at Rational Spirits.A Charleston based Rum Distillery.

Also rum, tiki and cocktail blogger and owner of "A Mountain of Crushed Ice" - a blog about rums and tiki drinks in the first place but also other cocktails and spirits. Been blogging since 2008 and covering the Tales of the Cocktail since 2009, the UK Rumfest in London since 2011, Tiki Oasis in San Diego and FIBAR in Spain. Also done cocktail garnish and tiki history seminars.

Member of the Rum XP - International Rum Experts."
It would appear that Tiare's "mountain" is no longer composed of ice, but of uh, compost...

"Also, I’m very happy to see that my friend and fellow blogger Helena is moving to the United States and adding brand ambassador to her repertoire."

One thing bothered me...

...and that was the mysterious placement of the Wonk's "good friend" Helena's new commercial job, in an article about his good friend Bryan Davis (he of the magic light, atomic powered super fast aging scheme) of Lost Spirits.

I'll try to tie it together.

1. Lost Spirits seems a loser from the get go. From calling a tossed-in banana peel as "dunder", to magic light treated wood, and to a unique mega-sized oak barrel still (which quickly and predictably developed a fungal infection and had to be destroyed).

2. Apparently based on a well funded private financial relationship, Lost Spirits then created his next time machine, called by the Wonk "...A self-contained reactor, the size of small SUV, delivered to distilleries, who will lease it for a monthly fee.".

Yes, he did use the word "reactor". The formal name of this mad invention: Thea One reactor, (Targeted Hyper-Esterification Aging). Good grief. What with Star Wars, good timing, eh?

3. In the same article he reveals that "..In occasional conversations with Bryan during these past few months, I learned that operations had moved to a new undisclosed location (I’m picturing the Bat Cave here)".

4. It also turns out that in roughly the same time frame a new distillery called "Rational Spirits - Reinventing Rum" came into being far from LS's old California digs, in Charleston.

Now it all makes sense:

Lost Spirits pretty much stops making much spirit, and turns their attention to their new magic aging "reactor", to be available for "licensing". At the same time a brand new distillery is organized in early 2015 and - surprise! - is the very first "licensee". Wow, I say!

On August 16th a few things happen. The "new" operation - Rational Spirits - announces that Tiare is their new Brand Ambassador. Keep in mind that Tiare had already pushed Lost Spirit's earlier products.

And the very next month, Tiare posts another BJ blog entry about the brand new, new make "Santeria" made by the new Rational Spirits.

The article is more than complimentary. You could hear Rational's orgasm in Florida. But hey, no matter that this was her new employer's product, no matter that she didn't reveal this, nope, she just loooooooved the super strong product that featured LS-like quasi-dunder fermentation, and the use of the ostensibly licensed Thea time/travel machine.

Does that all make sense?

Well in a twisted and incestuous way, yes why yes indeed. Everyone seems to know everybody and it's just one big circle jerk - all over yet another self taught, mad scientist creation that has yet to be proven.

Give this guy another few years and he'll be running for the Republican presidency in 2020. For now, he'll have to defer to Trump...

And another positive review:

http://www.drinkhacker.com/2015/10/02/r ... teria-rum/

Drinkhacker claims that LS processed Rational Spirit's new make and compares the two - favorably. What we have here is either a case of mutual masterbation or a market marker's pipe dream: the ability to take a "days old" rum that has been transformed by the Thea "reactor" into something that well, doesn't taste at all like a truly aged rum, but that IS different.

It's uh, not really aged at all, but uh, it tastes just like a 20 year old rum. Well, maybe not completely like it. Well, maybe not at all. But it does taste good, well er, different. But is a good, maybe kinda 20-year kind of way. Seriously.

Their task: to convince you that it tastes different enough to justify the higher price for what is a completely unaged spirit based on it's made up, redefined New Age age.

Just one little problem: all the regulations recognize aging as we have understood it for centuries - real age (time) in real oak containers. Apparently LS and Rational know this for it seems the "Santeria" makes no mention of age...

Per George Orwell:
"A close examination of the matter demonstrates a twisting and perverting of word meanings in the public consciousness. This is accomplished by altering, over time, the very definitions of key words in our minds and in the dictionaries we turn to when we seek to clarify and resolve terms that seem ambiguous or "off" when we hear them used by pundits, or when we read them in the corporate media.

Anyone familiar with George Orwell’s 1984 is already aware of the idea that controlling a people’s definition of words, controlling the meanings that those words evoke in the minds of the general public, is integral to achieving actual thought control of the populace."
Instead of "kidnapping" and "torture", our government wordsmiths refer to "extraordinary rendition". Or Ronald Reagan's powerful and populace destroying bomb, the "Peacemaker".
