We're not much for mixed drinks, though a good Bloody Mary or Mojito can be nice. It's Sunday morning and most of the Floridians I know are having a chuckle over the Northeast's reaction to what we'd call a fun hurricane, a marginal Cat 1 or tropical storm.
Great way to observe Mother Nature in action.
When Irene was approaching Florida as a possible Cat 3, no emergencies were declared, but long before this degraded system skimmed the northeast as a diminishing Cat 1, with most of the residents getting only tropical storm rains, why 10 states declared emergencies and the President cut his vacation short.
Politics.
Watching the networks cut in for national news was even funnier. The best they could come up with is a lifeguard shanty (on the beach) being slid by some high water. Poor babies. Anyway, a few sensible northerners - in a spirit of adventure - started doing what Key Westers of the Conch Republic do with every storm...
Drink.
Steve Shaw of Shaw Wineries was the first to invent a drink named after the storm:
What, no white wine? Thanks Steve...Steve Shaw:
Hurricane Irene
Spiced rum,
Fresh lime,
Splash of cranberry juice,
and a splash of Sprite, Sierra Mist or Squirt
