From bought sample.
Really nice. You can smell the bourbon influence. Very easy going and smooth.
Reminds me lot a sherry cask whisky.
Foursquare Port Cask 9 yo
I finally nearly worked through a bottle. It really grew on me a bit. It's still off the wall to me though quite unique. It's a 9 year that really could pass for nearly a 12 year Bajan rum, the cooperage no doubt played a role here. I believe the lack of chill filtration really helps.
If I'm pitting this against the real McCoy 12 year there really is a difference in the flavor but the smoothness is similar. The McCoy offers a more traditional feel and taste offering caramel and classic spice notes. There is also a more subdued aroma on the port cask finish but has a bit more heat to it. I felt the port cask finish while dominating in port did offer a stronger flavor. This may be due to more pot distillate no doubt.
