Mackmyra whisky from Sweden

Post by JaRiMi »

For quite some years now, a company called Mackmyra has been making whiskies in Sweden. They chose not to imitate directly Scottish style, or any other style already in existence - but rather make their own styles, and do their own thing.

Mackmyra uses some very interesting methods of production to make a whisky unlike any other. Theirs is a malt whisky, but they use for example burning juniper branches (with local peat) to create a very unique, Scandinavian smoke which them permeates the barley grains. As for casks, how about a arctic cloudberry-wine treated cask?! Or lingonberry-blueberry wine treated cask? Exotic...But surprisingly these things actually work!

Unlike rum-makers, Mackmyra DOES NOT HIDE THEIR METHODS. Instead, they actually use them in their marketing story, as the differentiator that makes their whisky unique! Now there's a lesson to be learned...
