I bit the bullet and bought a Falcon similar to da'rum the black one (hunter). I haven't tried it yet as I have a cold and I'm not going to stand outside and smoke it in the cold with a cold.

Good call. They are a good utility pipe. Be careful smoking that new bowl in. Do as they advise and wet the inside of the bowl and smoke it painfully slowly with light puffs. The bowls will burn if you don't.
I dont use the dry rings as I find them crappy. I do unscrew the bowl mid smoke and dab the condensate out with tissue paper.
Bad luck about the cold but enjoy thr pipe when you can.

Oddly enough...


I'm sure we are all different in that we tend to collect pipes of different kinds and styles; for example I now have 13 pipes, most bought used/refurbished. Yet somehow, when I'm in the mood for a brief smoke, the Falcon comes to hand often.

It smokes well, and captures moisture well (not that sipping doesn't help too). Surely it is not the most attractive pipe, but it sure does what it is intended to do.

I quite like the look of Falcons, maybe it's just me. Had the first half bowl today smokes well, very well. In it was some Presbyterian I decided to use Presby because of it's burning qualities, may not be white ash but it does burn down to an ash and since I'm breaking this in and I need to carbonize the bowl it's a good tobacco to use.
Might try some Durbar for second or third bowl not sure depends on my mood.

Ah yes the dry rings. tried it without dry ring in, it gurgled so I scraped the bottom outside of the bowl just to get a little extra clearance and she smokes nicely with the dry rings now(Erinmore Balkan). Was smoking like a strangled chicken before I scraped the bowl.

Just around the hole jimbo. You don't need to srape the whole bottom, just need to create some clearance between bowl and dry ring.

Just reporting back since I did my modification to the bottom of my falcon bowl. Wow it is working a treat with the dry rings in, smoked a bowl of Erinmore Balkan Mixture this morning and what a nice smoke that was.
