Arturo Fuente: You can't go wrong...

Coffee, cigars and rum go togther like priests and choirboys. Indeed the brothers are known to have a tipple now and then. Oh and some rum, cigars and Belgian beer as well, lol...

Arturo Fuente: you can't go wrong...

There is no doubt that somehow, coffee - cigars - and rum are just made for one another. As far as the rum part is concerned, it seems it's the heavier, bolder and more complex rums that beg a cigar. Think Pussers, MGXO, the ED12 or 15 or even altered Matusalem 15. No matter, a good solid rum goes well with a good, solid stogie.

Now there are few cigar afficianados, if any, who don't know or like Fuente's famous Hemingway series. In our case, the Fuente Hemingway Short Story - the shortest version - is just about right and shares well for a good half hour. The Hemingways are made with Dominican long leaf and binders, and are finished with a lovely and unique Perfecto type shape made with a Camaroon wrapper. This cigar provides us with what we can only call a "leafy" pungent aroma and taste that reflects the tradition and art of a natural product, grown and constructed with great care from selected aged tobaccos.

We think this effect is largely due to the Camaroon wrapper.

And after tasting a number of other companies' Camaroon wrapped versions, we tend to thing this is the key. The only downside to Hemingway is cost, from $6 to $10 depending on the length and ring size. This factor makes the Hemingway an occasional treat, but it wasn't long before we realized that Fuente uses a similar combination - Dominican wrapped with Camaroon - for most of their line, even down to the $2.99 Curly Tails.

To be fair, you do get what you pay for but still - truth be told - Fuente's lineup offers a terrific number of sticks that have that Camaroon flavor, are of good length and ring size and sell in the $4 to $6 range.

What's your short story?
