Recently Mama - in a flurry of informative posts - tossed one up for an "artisan" rum made in Louisiana called "Bayou Select". Mama believed this rum to be about 3 years old, possible use of ex-port barrels - good so far - but then? His repeated hydro tests revealed a consistent 9 grams/liter - a signficant amount of probable alteration with sugar.

In the interest of palate development he did his tasting PRIOR to testing, and good on him - he picked up the sugar before testing. Earlier today, Mama also led me to another "artisan" I knew of, but sans details he provided...

It is becoming clear that the long fight in which many of us have engaged is now bearing, well, pure rums. Thanks especially to all the testers reported in the Master Sugar List, the public awareness of sugaring and other alteration has reached a critical mass. As an ex-marketing guy you know this when you see a distiller like this promoting purity.
