And the beatings go own: the Militarization of the Police

Bet you never thought you'd see this one on a respectable forum. But this forum is hardly respectable, and neither is rum! This section is for the forbidden: rum and religion, politics and sex. Here's to Frank Zappa and Catholic Girls!

And the beatings go own: the Militarization of the Police

Post by Capn Jimbo »

Check this headline...

American police killed more people in March (111) than the entire UK police have killed since 1900

The militarization of our police has been going on for some years. Police departments are now given war fighting machines that they don't really want or need (so that the war industry can produce ever more), and some of which are so heavy they actually destroy our roads. Our military trained and minded veterans are solicited for employment. SWAT teams are now sent out to literally invade homes and businesses for otherwise relatively minor calls (eg home disturbance), in the process terrifying ordinary people, children and infants and sometimes killing them!

The police mindset thus has been changed from our good old goal of "Protect and Serve", to considering all civilians, especially those of color, as "enemies". Police are rarely disciplined, or at worst are fired, but retain their certifications and simply get re-employed in another war zone, er community.

The writing is on the wall - the massive redistribution of wealth to the 0.1%, mass un-and-under employment, massive personal debt and misery, a now permanent state of highly profitable war, politicians dependent on promoting the corporate agenda, NSA spying on all of us, the erosion of free speech - you name it... It seems that these powerful forces are anticipating unrest and have put in place a domestic military force - called our police - to quell the natives using any means...

Wake up people and stop falling for divisive politics, but rather come to together for our common community, humanity and interests. It's time for us to direct our governments to stop funding war and privatization, but to start funding peace, the repair of our infrastructure, the breakup of monopolies, fair taxes for all, closing the tax havens, plus facilitating public, not private interests.

The cost of feeding all children, providing good educations, insuring a dignified retirement, healthcare for all is FAR less than what we have squandered on useless and counterproductive war and the aura of violence that fills our media and "entertainment" venues.
