Last year the objective was to present the diversity of rum. This year is no different and is marketed as an educational experience "from raw materials... distilling... aging and blending" and once again, to demonstrate "the diversity of rum".

And once again, the selection of rums is rather curious:

Havana Club Selección de Maestros Rum
Plantation XO 20th Anniversary Barbados Rum
Ron Zacapa Centenario (23 Solero)
Dictador 12 Year Solera
El Dorado 12 Year Old Special Reserve Rum
Rum Nation Panama 18

Of the generally accepted five basic styles of rum, missing are rums of the styles Jamaican, Barbadian and Cane Juice styles, although the leading Twiggie's Tie Dye Rum - Z-23 of course - makes its seemingly omnipresent appearance.

Still, having one good Cuban and at least one great Demeraran style (among four others) ought to keep the chill away. Tastings will never be as experiental as a broadly representative rumfest, but they are always fun. Be sure to tip the presenter and your waitresses...
