Brinley's Gold Coconut Rum: a shocking experience!
Let me be up front. Except for coconut water, I'm really not a coconut person, never have been. Can't stand macaroons. But put a fine coffee rum like Brinleys or Ron Santero in front of me, and I'm toast. I grew up close to the Carribean, South America and the coffee business. But coconut??
Are you nuts?
Still, after many months of avoidance I finally bought a bottle of Brinley's Gold Coconut Rum. Why? First, because I recently had a nice dialogue with Zach Brinley, and learned that Brinleys uses authentic and natural spices and flavorings. Indeed, you'll find that the Brinley's rums are not crystal clear, as such filtering would remove too many of these natural spices - you can actually see a small spice residue in the bottles.
Second and last - I was just plain curious to see what Brinley's could do with coconut, perhaps the most common symbol of our tropical Paradise. Now I'm not gonna tip my bowler, but heed this...
Stay tuned, and don't miss perhaps the most surprising review we've done in a long, long time...

So did you say a review of their Mango rum is forthcoming?
I really need to get ahold of some Barbancourt pango, it sounds very interesting based on your review, but the only place I have seen it is Hi time in Cali, and I have yet to order from them.

Capn's Log: Yank, although I'd bet the Mango will also demonstrate Brinley's commitment to authentic spicing, I have no interest whatever in anything other than a real, ripe and freshly picked mango. |
